Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) in London, was raised by her mother, her grandmother, and her godparents. Her father left her family. While she was a small girl, she struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder. She also experienced anxiety because of the word association. Ford's passion for acting started as a child. She was a part of in the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted at the Sylvia Young Theatre School for a short time, Ford decided that it was not the right location for her. Ford, instead of applying for admission to Central School of Speech and Drama and securing a place at the third time made an application and secured acceptance to Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford was graduated in 1993, but at the time she was already making her television debut in a 1991 episode from Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate was a regular performer on stage, and joined The Royal Shakespeare Company's 2000-2001 season. Tate gained not long after her recognition for her stand-up comedies that were added to Tate's show in the year 1996.
